Electrical Hazards and Energy Control
Recognize exposed parts, damaged wiring, wet conditions, grounding problems, temporary power and arc hazards; review de-energization and LOTO awareness.
Course Code: EP1
The 1-Hour Electrocution Prevention course is designed to educate construction and trade workers about the hazards of electrical work, safe practices, and OSHA’s standards for preventing electrocution incidents on the jobsite. Electrocution remains one of OSHA’s “Fatal Four” leading causes of death in the construction industry, making this training essential for all personnel who work around or with electrical equipment.
Participants will learn how electricity works, the different types of electrical hazards, and the safety measures necessary to protect themselves and others. The training emphasizes hazard recognition, safe work practices, and compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart K – Electrical, along with applicable NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Training (SST) requirements.
This course counts as 1 Hour of General Elective credit toward your Site Safety Training (SST) card and is valid for 5 years from completion unless otherwise specified by the New York City Buildings Department.

Build awareness of construction electrical hazards and the planning, isolation, clearance, equipment inspection, protective devices, PPE, reporting, and qualified-person controls used to prevent exposure.
Recognize exposed parts, damaged wiring, wet conditions, grounding problems, temporary power and arc hazards; review de-energization and LOTO awareness.
Review properly rated PPE awareness, overhead clearance, equipment and load movement, underground utilities, markings, planning, barriers, spotters, and qualified-person coordination.
Inspect cords, plugs, grounds and tools; identify defects and unauthorized repairs; review ratings, wet-location concerns, GFCI protection, and removal from service.
Keep clear of unsafe conditions, prevent exposure, notify supervision, secure the area, follow emergency procedures, avoid unqualified rescue attempts, and document as required.
Verify provider and course approval, learner eligibility, online delivery and identity rules, General Elective SST acceptance, documentation, and validity before relying on completion.
