Formwork, Shoring and Reshoring
Review design and load awareness, inspection, bracing, placement, stability, concrete-strength considerations, controlled removal, and the roles of competent and qualified personnel.
Course Code: CM1
The 1-Hour Concrete and Masonry Construction course is designed to provide construction and trade workers with the knowledge and skills needed to work safely when performing concrete and masonry tasks. Concrete and masonry work presents significant hazards, including falls, struck-by incidents, and exposure to harmful dust. This training focuses on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and regulatory compliance.
Participants will learn about formwork safety, shoring, bracing, rebar hazards, and the safe handling of concrete and masonry materials. The course also covers personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, dust control methods, and OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart Q – Concrete and Masonry Construction, along with NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Training (SST) requirements.
This course counts as 1 Hour of Specialized Elective credit toward your Site Safety Training (SST) card and is valid for 5 years from completion unless otherwise specified by the New York City Buildings Department.

Build awareness of high-consequence hazards involved in forming, reinforcing, placing, finishing, cutting, and supporting concrete and masonry work. Effective protection depends on approved planning, stable temporary structures, controlled access, exposure controls, trained workers, and competent oversight.
Review design and load awareness, inspection, bracing, placement, stability, concrete-strength considerations, controlled removal, and the roles of competent and qualified personnel.
Address impalement hazards, guarded protrusions, concrete buckets, pumping and placing equipment, pinch points, suspended loads, access restrictions, wet-concrete contact, and safe movement of materials.
Recognize dust-producing tasks and the need for compliant engineering controls, work practices, housekeeping, respiratory programs, hygiene, eye and skin protection, hearing protection, and training.
Review wall stability, bracing, limited-access zones, sequencing, falling-object and collapse hazards, equipment interfaces, inspections, communication, and unsafe-condition reporting.
This course does not authorize formwork design, shore removal, silica-program administration, equipment operation, or competent-person decisions. Follow approved project documents, manufacturer instructions, employer programs, applicable regulations, and job-specific authorization.
