Scaffold Components and Rigging Awareness
Recognize platforms, stirrups, hoists, suspension ropes, support devices, tiebacks, counterweights, anchorage considerations, controls, secondary devices, and manufacturer limitations.
Course Code: SS1
The 1-Hour Scaffolds – Suspended course provides workers with essential training on the safe use, inspection, and maintenance of suspended scaffolds. Suspended scaffolds, often used for high-rise façade work, require strict adherence to safety procedures to prevent falls, equipment failures, and accidents.
Participants will learn about the components of suspended scaffolds, proper rigging techniques, load limits, fall protection requirements, and OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart L regulations. This course also emphasizes hazard recognition, daily inspections, and emergency response procedures for scaffold-related incidents.
This course counts as 1 Hour of Specialized Elective credit toward your Site Safety Training (SST) card and is valid for 5 years from completion unless otherwise specified by the New York City Buildings Department.

Review essential awareness for work from suspended platforms, including how the support structure, suspension system, hoists, ropes, platform, access, fall protection, environment, workers, tools, and materials interact. Safe work depends on the complete system and actual site conditions.
Recognize platforms, stirrups, hoists, suspension ropes, support devices, tiebacks, counterweights, anchorage considerations, controls, secondary devices, and manufacturer limitations.
Review pre-use checks and warning signs involving damage, wear, corrosion, deformation, incompatible parts, improper support, obstructions, electrical exposure, falling objects, and changing weather.
Understand rated capacity, controlled material placement, safe access, guardrails, personal fall-arrest concepts, independent lifelines where required, equipment compatibility, and clearance considerations.
Address communication, controlled movement, housekeeping, exclusion zones, shutdown triggers, malfunction response, suspension trauma, rescue planning, incident reporting, and stop-work authority.
This one-hour course does not by itself authorize scaffold erection, alteration, inspection, supervision, rigging, engineering, or rescue. Follow current regulations, approved plans, manufacturer instructions, employer procedures, and directions from appropriately qualified persons.
