Scaffold Systems and User Responsibilities
Recognize common supported-scaffold components, understand the difference between use and authorized erection or alteration, follow access controls, and avoid unauthorized changes.
Course Code: SSUR4
The 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher course is designed to train construction workers on the safe use of supported scaffolds in compliance with OSHA and NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) regulations. This course also satisfies the refresher training requirement for those whose scaffold user cards are expiring.
Participants will learn hazard recognition, safe work practices, load capacity, fall protection requirements, and emergency procedures specific to supported scaffolds. The training includes instruction on scaffold setup, inspection, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and worker responsibilities to ensure a safe jobsite.
This course counts as 4 Hours of Prescribed credit toward your Site Safety Training (SST) card and is valid for 4 years from completion unless otherwise specified by the New York City Buildings Department.

Refresh essential knowledge for working from supported scaffolds. Safe use depends on the foundation, supports, bracing, ties, platforms, access, fall protection, loads, environment, nearby operations, inspection status, and each worker following the limits of their role.
Recognize common supported-scaffold components, understand the difference between use and authorized erection or alteration, follow access controls, and avoid unauthorized changes.
Review warning signs involving foundations, supports, braces, ties, platforms, access, guardrails, electrical exposure, weather, falling objects, damage, tags, and changing site conditions.
Understand rated-capacity awareness, material placement, safe access, platform openings, guardrails, personal fall-arrest concepts, falling-object controls, PPE, and housekeeping.
Address communication, exclusion areas, vehicle and equipment interaction, stop-work decisions, defect reporting, evacuation, incident response, rescue awareness, and refresher responsibilities.
This course does not by itself authorize erection, dismantling, alteration, engineering, repair, or required inspections. Follow current regulations, approved designs, manufacturer instructions, employer procedures, and directions from appropriately qualified persons.
